Flash Bastard - rthym guitarist 1987 through 1989
After the departure of Kid Chaos from The Love Reaction in February 1987 (he leaves to join The Cult), Zodiac reformed The Love Reaction. Flash Bastard (real name Jan Cryka) is brought in as an additional guitarist and Trash D Garbage is found as a replacement for Kid Chaos. Flash (along with Trash) record the Prime Mover and Backseat education singles as part of The Love Reaction as well as the album Tattooed Beat Messiah. Both stay on for the world tour following the release of the album but leave the Love Reaction in 1989. Prior to joining The Love Reaction Flash had served as a sound engineer...most notably on the Maxi Priest album Intentions released in 1986.
Zodiac, in 1989, sums up Flash's departure from The Love Reaction (along with Trash, both left the band in 1989)...
"They were taken on in the first place as employees, if you like, as salaried members of the band. It was a suggestion by the management at the time, and a situation I was never happy with."
Zodiac continues...
"I asked them to join the band full-time, but they weren't too keen, and so in the end it got to the point where I asked them to join full-time or leave. They decided to hop off, and that's fair enough. It was purely their decision and the parting was pretty amicable. I didn't push them out or anything."
Flash drops his moniker after leaving The Love Reaction and is currently performing in a band under his own name. His current management is Northern Music (formerly Far North Music) based in Bradford. To this date Cryka's group has yet to release any material
