From the end of my formal education my career spanned 25 years: 10 as a corporate employee followed by 15 running my own business through which I did a variety of software and technical writing projects for clients. I also created my own software package which I designed, developed, tested, documented, marketed, sold and installed; providing all the training and support entirely myself.
During the recession of the early nineties, I kept my technical knowledge and skills up to date through personal projects and an intense course of personal study. But the recession exhausted all my capital. I could no longer sustain my business. Age, lack of an employer reference and other factors barred me from corporate employment. A 10 year search for work proved fruitless. Thus relegated to a bare existence on this miserly pittance they call welfare, I turned my analytical skills to writing this book about the society in which I live, and the economic system under which I had so vainly toiled.
